RobbinsBM replied to the topic Which TR6 is the most desirable? in the forum Soapbox 8 years, 9 months ago
I had a ’73 TR6 until recently (sold to fund a house deposit).
All TR6’s are pretty collectable. A very early 69 model would probably be the rarest. However, I think a low owners original condition but unrestored car would be equally valuable.
There are a couple of standard mods to the chassis and suspension. Chassis mounted tube shocks…[Read more]

Hi Folks,
The 5 speed conversion using the Toyota box is quite popular with the TR6 boys in the USA.
One chap has created an excellent conversion kit which should be equally applicable to the saloons.

RobbinsBM replied to the topic Oil feed lines for rocker gear – pros and cons in the forum Stronger, Faster, Better… 8 years, 9 months ago
Hi Glen,
I have the oil feed fitted to my wife’s Saffron TC and my (recently sold) TR6 PI.
Things I noticed:
1. Before the conversion, I would need to reset the tappets every 10,000km or so. Usually there was some movement (about a quarter ~ half turn). After the conversion, I need to reset the tappets around every 25~30,000km.

Hi Glen,
I had problems with my PI when NZ changed from leaded to unleaded petrol in the mid ’90’s. It seems the aromatics in the unleaded fuel give the old seals a hard time. I ended up replacing every seal between the tank and the injector tips.
Interestingly enough, it seemed to be the mix of leaded and unleaded petrol (during the…[Read more]

RobbinsBM replied to the topic Sedan fuel economy… in the forum Vehicle Help 8 years, 9 months ago
Hi Glen,
With my wife’s saffron TC, around town we normally get 25~30mpg and on the open road (crusing 100/110) we have got as high as 39 MPG, but typically get around 34-35.
The car is a 2500TC auto fitted with 14" wheels and 1.5" SU carbs. The motor is relatively fresh (circa 60,000km on reconditioned engine). I normally use 98 octane…[Read more]

Hi Glen,
Long way home. Love it. Yep we’ve had a touch of the white stuff lately (not here in Wellington though – the wind is so strong it doesn’t get the chance to touch the ground!).
I know a chap with a burgundy PI wagon in fair condition which he may part with for around $nz3k. It;s been converted to carbs and is an auto, but otherwise…[Read more]

Hi Glen,
Hmmmm, given it’s "only" a TC I would probably offer it to the local classic car museum (Southwards is a big one just north of Wellington). Having said that, NZ had an awful lot of Triumphs on the road, so an amazingly original one is not as uncommon as you might expect.
With unlimited budget I think there would be two ways I’d…[Read more]

After a check over and some minor repairs, the old girl passed her Warrant of Fitness so is now on the road – just in time for the British car day this weekend.
I’d forgotten just how much fun this lady is to drive. Wooohoo!

Spent some more quality time on the old girl over the weekend.
After rekitting the clutch slave cylinder, refreshing the petrol, checking the brakes, I was pleased to get the old girl mobile.
She drives just as I remember her – light and responsive. THe motor has more stoke than I remember and it is certainly quieter than the TC we have just…[Read more]

After being crook with a bad dose of the flu, I was feeling sorry for myelf. So on Saturday, to cheer myself up, I ignored the lawns that needed mowing and spent some quality time in the garage.
After charging the battery, checking the fuel, I attempted to wake the old girl from a five year sleep. Third try she burst into life much to my…[Read more]
