fittospit replied to the topic V8 kit for Spitfire? in the forum Stronger, Faster, Better… 8 years, 9 months ago
I finally brought home my 1974 Spitfire yesterday after buying it a year ago. It has been in the lady’s garage unmoved since 1984 when her husband decided to rebuild the motor and transmission and pulled them out. That was as far as he got. The vehicle has no major rust and very few spots or minor surface rust. I will do the minor body work and…[Read more]

fittospit replied to the topic What is this and where can I find one? in the forum Vehicle Help 8 years, 9 months ago
This rubber flap was cracked and wasn’t sealing well, and when I was sanding I bumped it and it fell off. I’m sure it is a vent flap of some sort but I am not sure what it vents. I don’t even know how to remove and install the new one yet, and I have no idea where I am going to find it. Anyone know where to find this and what it’s called? It…[Read more]

I have decided to remove the windshield so I can not worry about rough edges in the paint at the gasket and also so I can more easily paint the interior dash area. I think I can get the windshield off by working the rubber from the inside, but I am not sure. Any special tricks to removing the windshield?…[Read more]

I realized that the windshield gasket was 35 years old and at best would be stiff and weather checked. I could not count on it to reseal properly at that age. I knew I would have to replace the seal, so saving the old one was not a priority. I had already removed the finisher pieces and there are two slits where it mounted in the gasket. I used a…[Read more]

fittospit replied to the topic Carburetor questions in the forum Vehicle Help 8 years, 9 months ago
Unfortunately, it will not run fine without advance. It needs to advance timing at higher rpm and does it either by vacuum from the carb or centrifugal force. I am trying to find out if this distributor will work with the carb. I have heard it does not unless I recurve the distributor and make it centrifugal. I am hoping I heard wrong, but….…[Read more]

I have a 1974 Spifire MK IV / 1500 U.S. made. It has been undriven for 25 years and I am about to rebuild the carburetor but I find that instead of the Stromberg i expected, I have a Weber 40 DCOE. I understood that these carbs did not work with vacuum advance distributors, which I have. The previous owner drove this car and parked it 25 years…[Read more]

fittospit replied to the topic New Spitfire – what to look for / any special concerns? in the forum Vehicle Help 8 years, 9 months ago
I just bought a 1974 Spitfire almost sight unseen. It has been stored against the wall of a dirt floor garage since 1979. I could get at about 1/4 of the car for inspection – the driver’s door and back, and the rear of the vehicle. Other than the mouse chewed stuffing, the vehicle looks pretty solid. No obvious rust, and from what I could see…[Read more]
